The HSE has recently updated it’s Asbestos FAQs

The Health & Safety Executive’s Asbestos FAQs are a good starting point for information on asbestos and safety.

They are targeted at a range of audiences:

  • employers & employees
  • members of the public

And also include sections on:

  • general information
  • the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012

As an example, their FAQ on “What are the health risks from asbestos?” starts by explaining the following.

Asbestos is responsible for over 5000 deaths every year. Younger people, if routinely exposed to asbestos fibres over time, are at greater risk of developing asbestos-related disease than older workers. This is due to the time it takes for the body to develop symptoms after exposure to asbestos (latency).
