Global Environmental is pleased to be working with Axis, the housing improvement and maintenance specialists on social housing on the Thamesmead estate in the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley.
Working in partnership with Essex-based consultancy Health and Safety Compliance Partnership, Global is carrying out asbestos surveys on the housing stock in the estate. The houses, mostly built in the 1970s and 1980s, are typical of that era when asbestos was used in many aspects of construction.
“We have to take a methodical approach to these buildings,” says Global’s Project Manager, Lee Ypey. “They were built when asbestos was used in many aspects of housing construction and the challenge for our surveyors is to pay careful attention to the whole building and not make any assumptions.”
Axis specialises in the improvement and maintenance of Housing, Public Sector, Education, Heritage and Commercial properties, with disciplines tailored to the requirements of each sector. Established in 1986, the company has enjoyed impressive growth and has a current turnover of more than £135m. It has operations throughout the Midlands, East Anglia, London and Kent.
Health and Safety Compliance Partnership was formed in 2009 and works with individuals and businesses from all sectors to inspire positive and responsible attitudes towards health and safety through the provision of information and training.
